It was intended as a gift to his son Man Singh I.

Once, approximately 10,000 people lived behind the fortified walls of Bhangarh, a vibrant town bursting with activity. However, its successful existence was cut short, and it gained its terrible reputation due to a dark and foreboding legend.

According to legend, a sorcerer named Singhia fell in love with Princess Ratnavati, the lovely daughter of the fort’s ruler. In his obsessive pursuit of her, Singhia used black magic to enchant a cosmetic product for the princess. But Ratnavati, sensing the deceit, poured the enchanted oil onto a boulder, which promptly crushed Singhia to death. Before his demise, Singhia is said to have cursed Bhangarh, predicting its ultimate doom.

The city was desolated overnight and left in a desolation that remains to this day. The spirits of Sanghya and Princess Ratnavati are believed to haunt the fort, and visitors are prohibited from entering after sunset.
